Land Rover featured the brand new Discovery Sport Launch Edition at the annual Palm Springs Modernism Week design festival. This is the second year that Land Rover North America was a major partner for the festival, which celebrates mid-century modern design, architecture, art, fashion, and culture. The event started on February 12th, 2015, and will end on February 22nd.
The Land Rover Discovery Sport Launch Edition is one of the first 250 vehicles in production and features numerous distinctive design elements. The Yulong White Metallic exterior with Ebony Grained Leather interior will not be available again until the 2016 model. The Launch Edition also contains bright finish tread plates, aluminum paddle shifters, and brushed stainless steel sport pedals. The Discovery Sport Launch Edition has a MSRP of $48,975.
"Automotive design is a balance between product and industrial design, and of course it has to be commercially viable. It's about making an emotional connection with the customer and design fuels this connection," said McGovern, Design Director and Chief Creative Officer, Land Rover. "One of the reasons I love Modernism Week so much is because it celebrates a fascinating period in design. When you think of what was created through that period, it is truly far reaching. The beauty for me is that the designs that were created then look as relevant and modern now and in fact in some respects they're even more relevant," continued McGovern.
